Sinopse

This play focuses on the African nationalists who fought for the liberation, describing and analysing the independence movement in Africa, so as to better understand Portuguese colonialism in a global context. “Libertação” is a play based on interviews to people who fought against Portuguese colonialism, complemented with archive research on the liberation wars and an analysis of the political speeches from both sides.

Hotel Europa
is a duo of artists from two different countries (Portugal and the Czech Republic) with a dance and theatre background. André Amálio andTereza Havlíčková met in 2008 while attending the master’s degree in performance making at Goldsmiths, University of London. They’ve been working together ever since, creating performances that explore the boundaries between dance, performance and theatre. Their collective creations overlay autobiography, family stories and national history, weaving a complex web of references from both popular and classical culture, and allowing the audience to travel between cultures, time periods and genres. The company produced the performances “Hotel Europa” [Europe Hotel] (2010), “Amálio vs. Amália” (2011), “TV Heroes” (2012), “FÉ” [Faith] (2013), “KinoWaltz” (2014) and more recently “Portugal Não É Um País Pequeno” [Portugal Is Not a Small Country] (2015).
