JOANA PROVIDÊNCIA / ACE TEATRO DO BOLHÃO

This is exactly how it’s going to be: we will travel from word to word, to discover the story of the little girl who never wanted to sleep and of the word who wanted to get married, of the five fingers that are the hand’s sons, and of the word that made a particular boy terribly happy. We will jump from poem to poem, and fly between tiny stories that will leave us perplexed, and all of this because words never cease to surprise us.

Joana Providência was born in Braga in 1965. She started studying classical dance with Fernanda Canossa. In1989 she completed her degree at the Higher School of Dance of Lisbon with a grant by Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation. She’s been one of the artistic directors at ACE Teatro do Bolhão since 2003, and she’s been teaching movement at ACE School of Arts since 1995. Among her many creations as a choreographer stand out “Território”, “Terra quente, terra fria, “Mão na boca”and“Inquietações”, and the children projects “Opostos Bem-dispostos”and“A Menina do Mar”and“A Fada Oriana”, by Sophia de Mello Breyner.

ACE Teatro do Bolhão was formed in 2002, comprising eleven professionals under the artistic direction of António Capelo, Glória Cheio, João Paulo Costa, Joana Providência and Pedro Aparício, who were later joined by António Júlio. The company is based at Palácio do Bolhão, and has a synergetic relation with ACE School of Arts, which has been in operation for 26 years, integrating the young graduate professionals into a working team that is constantly being renewed.
