Joana Von Mayer Trindade & Hugo Calhim Cristóvão

One considers his aesthetics of the despicable turned deity, when the Fall is no longer so and becomes Vertigo, which is present with no first past or last future. Two performers express that “pure, loud, clear, beastly” movement, an Apolytrosis, which means redemption or rescue in Greek. The thing being redeemed in this piece is a scream before the ground that experiences the concepts of blasphemy, eschatology, sin, death and revelation. This dance also draws inspiration from Genet, Artaud and Sade, and it exorcises those symptoms and reflexions. 


Joana Von Mayer Trindade is a choreographer, performer and teacher. She has a master’s degree in Solo/Dance/Authorship- SODA from the Berlin University of the Arts, and a degree in Psychology from the University of Porto. She completed the Contemporary Dance Performer Course at Forum Dança, and the Essais Course at the National Contemporary Dance Centre in Angers.

Hugo Calhim Cristóvão is pursuing a doctorate in Philosophy at the University of Porto, and has a master’s degree in Contemporary Philosophy, having presented the thesis “The Dionysian, Zos vel Thanatos, and the Zoetic Art – Sorcery of Austin Osman Spare”. He has a degree in Philosophy and in Theatre, specialising in Acting and Actors Directing, from ESMAE – School of Music and Performing Arts. Together they co-founded the research group Nuisis Zobop (2004), and created “She Will Not Live”, “Veleda”, “Zos (She Will Not Live)”, “Meninas” [Girls], “Nameless Natures”, “O Céu é apenas um Disfarce Azul do Inferno” [Heaven Is Just a Blue Disguise of Hell], “Da Insaciabilidade no Caso ou ao mesmo Tempo um Milagre” [Insatiability in the case or at the same time a miracle], which was presented at Festival DDD – Dias da Dança 2017, and “Mysterium Coniunctionis”, which was presented in the scope of the series “Palcos Instáveis” [Unstable Stages], in September 2017.
