The fifth edition of DDD was scheduled to take place in 2020, but the pandemic forced its post-ponement to 2021. The priority was therefore to reschedule every performance, thus honouring every existing commitment. Teatro Municipal do Porto steers this project and undertakes it with many institutions that make it possible. It will continue to be the headquarters of a festival that is a lighthouse for contemporary dance, and this year TMP coproduces roughly a dozen performances, five of which international ones, which will be presented at Rivoli and Campo Alegre. Truly balancing Portuguese and international productions, DDD shows just how diversified contemporary dance is today and in what way it adds to the creation of a common space, which in this edition is tackled based on three issues that are key to understand the contemporary world: affection, ritual and transmission (from one body to the other, from one generation to the other). In close partnership with FITEI – International Theatre Festival of Iberian Expression, we shall replicate the + WEEK with 14 Portuguese dance and theatre performances, promoting home production in an ideal setting to welcome many programmers coming from all over the world. The goal is for Porto to become the springboard for Portuguese artists to be able to show their works on a global scale. As usual, Café Rivoli shall be DDD’s meeting point every day during the Festival, and into the early hours of the morning.
