Sinopse

The starting point for Lágrimas de Crocodilo [Crocodile Tears] is the analysis of the kind of crying that gives the performance its title — an expression used to refer to fake crying. This work is based on that notion of tantrum — an insincere display of emotion that is strategically used to attain certain purposes. Since that expression mostly applies to children, we start from tantrum in that age group, and we explore its development in “the older ones”. Which forms does a child’s fake crying take, and how does that strategic kind of emotional manipulation develop into similar behaviours in adulthood? In which situations are children and adults more likely to shed “crocodile tears”? And in order to attain exactly what? — Guilherme de Sousa & Pedro Azevedo

GUILHERME DE SOUSA (Viana do Castelo, 1994) & PEDRO AZEVEDO (Porto, 1996) met in 2014 and have been collaborating professionally since 2016. Their work covers fine arts and performing arts, and they have a special interest in theatre, dance and installation. Among their works stand out It Takes Two to Tango, VANISH, which won the Campo de Batalha grant, awarded by Teatro Municipal do Porto, and Horto – Uma forma que vem do toque [Horto – Form from Touch], which won the third edition of the Happy Together grant, awarded by Mala Voadora in partnership with the Porto Municipal Council / Forum of the Future. We invited Guilherme de Sousa and Pedro Azevedo to lead this Paralelo Warm Up session. They’re currently Teatro Municiwpal do Porto’s young associated artists for the 2019/2020 and 2020/2021 seasons.
