The first Portuguese participation in this year's edition of Internationale Tanzmesse nrw, the main event dedicated to contemporary dance, which takes place in Düsseldorf, Germany, from August 28th to 31st, is ensured by DGARTES, with Teatro Municipal do Porto and O Espaço do Tempo. The Portuguese delegation has 20 artists who work from Portugal.

Ana Isabel Castro, André "Speedy" Garcia, Bartosz Ostrowski, Bernardo Chatillon, Bibi Dória, BRABA.platforma / Ary Zara & Gaya de Medeiros, Bruno Brandolino, Catarina Miranda, Daniel Matos, Diana Niepce, Gio Lourenço, João dos Santos Martins, Joãozinho da Costa, Jonas & Lander, Luísa Saraiva, Natacha Campos, Odete, Tita Maravilha, Vânia Doutel Vaz e Wura Moraes make up the Portuguese participation in this year's edition of Internationale Tanzmesse nrw, which is divided into exhibition spaces, performance presentations, conversations, debates and workshops.

Tanzmesse aims to promote international cooperation and contact between artists and professionals in the sector, involving more than 50 countries, with a total of 1500 exhibitors and visitors. The exhibition space, Agora, is the central point of the initiative, where companies, artists, institutions and organizations present themselves through exhibitors and stands, to promote their work and increase their network of contacts, as will be the case with Representation of Portugal, which has its own stand.

O Elefante no meio da sala, by Vânia Doutel Vaz and La Burla, by Bruno Brandolino & Bibi Dória are part of the performances programme. Both presentations take place on August 30th, at tanzhaus nrw and Fabrik Heeder, respectively. This programme consists of 19 works, selected by the Tanzmesse curatorial committee, through an open call, and which are presented on stage, outdoors or online.

Still in the performances programme, there are Open Studios, where artists present an excerpt of a work — still under construction or already in circulation — with space for questions from the audience. On August 31st, dancer and choreographer André "Speedy" Garcia ensures the Portuguese representation replacing Vânia Doutel Vaz.

Resulting from an international cooperation agreement between DGARTES and Internationale Tanzmesse nrw, this first Portuguese presence at the event, due to its recognition, size and diversity, constitutes a unique opportunity for the dissemination of national productions and circulation of Portuguese artists and works in the field of dance, also enhancing the development of partnerships and collaborative dynamics between the various delegations and participating artists.
