Ágora - Cultura e Desporto do Porto and Cristina Planas Leitão have agreed to revoke, by mutual agreement, the contract that bound the co-director of the Performing Arts Department to the municipal company. Cristina Planas Leitão's collaborative relationship with Teatro Municipal do Porto (TMP) began in 2016. In 2019, she joined the project full-time, under the direction of Tiago Guedes, as a programmer. In 2022, she took over as interim artistic director of the TMP when Tiago Guedes left to direct the Maison de la Danse in Lyon and the Dance Biennale in the same city in France. At the beginning of 2023, Drew Klein joined Planas Leitão, thus establishing the co-directorship model of Ágora's Performing Arts Directorate, which, in addition to TMP, includes DDD - Festival Dias da Dança and CAMPUS Paulo Cunha e Silva. During her time as Director of Performing Arts at Ágora - Cultura e Desporto do Porto, the management of the municipal company notes the unwavering commitment and obvious dedication that Cristina Planas Leitão has shown to the performing arts, contributing significantly to the success of the projects under her direction.
At the start of the new season, the current executive director will take over as co-director of the Performing Arts at Ágora - Cultura e Desporto do Porto, ensuring executive management. This solution will guarantee the continuity of the model implemented at the beginning of 2023.
The partnership between Francisco Malheiro and Drew Klein represents a fusion of skills and experience that promises to boost the activity of projects dedicated to the performing arts and reinforce Porto's commitment to the quality and diversity of its cultural offer. As co-director, Malheiro will be responsible for the executive component, ensuring the continuity and efficiency of the projects developed and programmed by the Performing Arts Department.
Francisco Malheiro has a degree in Marketing Management from the Instituto Português de Administração de Marketing (IPAM), a postgraduate degree in Cultural Management and Policies from the University of Barcelona and a master's degree in Cultural Management from HKU - Utrecht University of the Arts. He was executive producer at the Performing Arts Department and assistant coordinator at the Image and Publicity Department of the Serralves Foundation, programming assistant at The Bluecoat Arts Centre (Liverpool, UK), project manager at the Youth Foundation and executive producer at the Science and Development Foundation. He began working at Teatro Municipal do Porto in September 2014, as assistant artistic director and later as artistic coordinator, taking over as executive director of the Performing Arts Department of Ágora - Cultura e Desporto do Porto, E.M., in July 2022.
