Chow Mo Wan is writing a science fiction novel about a train that travels to a place called 2046, where passengers can recover their lost memories and from which no one has ever returned. Inspired by his own adventures with various women at the Oriental Hotel in Hong Kong, the lines between fiction and reality soon begin to blur. Following a trail of mysterious connections, 2046 is considered the sequel to In the Mood For Love (2000). A master of non-linear storytelling, Wong Kar Wai creates a web of interconnected faces – some drowning in grief, others in the grip of passion – and wraps them in his signature aesthetic, rich in leafy shadows and contrasting colors.
