Aftersun

In a decaying holiday resort, Sophie (played, as a young woman, by the revelation Frankie Corio), aged 11, enjoys a rare period that she has to spend with her father, Calum (Paul Mescal, in a vigorous career moment). While the world of adolescence opens up for Sophie, outside her gaze Calum collapses under the weight of life outside of parenthood. Twenty years later, Sophie's (as an adult, played by the multitalented Celia Rowlson-Hall) tender memories of their last vacation together morph into a powerful and heartbreaking portrait of their relationship, as she tries to reconcile the father she knew with the man she remains an unknown in this superb and emotionally searing debut from Charlotte Wells.
