Sinopse
Over the course of 12 hours—split into 2 days—almost 300 a cappella recordings of national anthems will be heard while 4 musicians from a philharmonic band play and march non-stop. The hymns are subtitled in real time, and the piece is accompanied by a 15 metre long libretto that provides them with context. The audience can take part in a free food raffle for every 20 minutes they watch. The show has a certain hypnotic quality and resorts to history, musicology and sociology to explore the way in which the existence of other nationalities and identities, as well as feelings of unity and belonging, are naturalised, trivialised and abused. — Carlos Azeredo Mesquita
