One of the most cherished books by Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen turns into a musical tale, with actors and musicians going through the story of a little girl who lives in the sea (and is curious about life on land), of a little boy who lives on land (and is curious about life in the sea), and of the unlikely encounter between those two worlds… A nice dolphin playing the clarinet, a distrusting crab playing the saxophone and a mysterious octopus playing the bassoon are all part of this phantasy, as well as so many other fantastic beings gathered under the serious look of the bassist who rules the sea… Will it be possible to reach an agreement so that everyone may live in harmony?

Edward Luiz Ayres d'Abreu attended the National Conservatory under Ana Sousa Lima and Rui Pinheiro (piano), and Eli Camargo Júnior and Daniel Schvetz (composition). He completed a degree in composition at the Lisbon School of Music, where he studied under Sérgio Azevedo and António Pinho Vargas. His works have been performed by the Gulbenkian Orchestra (“Inscriptions (X)”, conducted by Luca Francesconi), the Metropolitan Orchestra of Lisbon (“Sinfonietta per orchestra classica”, which was commissioned by the orchestra for its 23rd birthday and conducted by Michael Zilm) and the Lisbon Contemporary Music Ensemble (“Parque de estrelas, vento e memórias”, conducted by Pedro Neves).

Ricardo Neves-Neves has a degree in theatre-acting from the Lisbon Theatre and Film School and a master’s degree in theatre studies from the University of Lisbon. He participates in Obrador d’Estíu (playwriting) in Barcelona with Simon Stephens. He is the artistic director of Teatro do Eléctrico, writing and staging for the company. He directed plays by Lewis Carroll, Edward Albee, Karl Valentin, Copi, Ana Lázaro, Spiro Scimone, Martin Crimp, Rousseau, Mozart and Charles Dickens. His plays have been staged by Mónica Garnel, Sandra Faleiro, Ana Lázaro, Paula Sousa and João André.

Martim Sousa Tavares was born in Lisbon, where he started studying piano at the age of 8. He completed a degree in musical sciences at the Nova University of Lisbon in 2012. He also has three-year orchestra conducting diplomas from the Italian Conducting Academy and the Conservatory of Brescia. He then moved to Chicago, where he completed a master’s degree in orchestra conducting with academic honours under Victor Yampolsky at the Northwestern Bienen School of Music in 2018. He conducted and worked with orchestras from Portugal, Italy, United Kingdom, Lithuania, USA, Taiwan and Russia.
