Sinopse

It is a simple routine, the expression of a space and time. Created in 2007, 36, Avenue Georges Mandel is a way to summon the presence of Maria Callas and remind us of the demanding nature of her art, the classical singing and the dramatic power of the figures she brought to life — Carmen, Norma, Tosca. To this voice that fills the stage, Raimund Hoghe chooses to subtract rather than add, creating a fragile zone where music can resonate. The ephemeral space that builds using its usual material works here as an intermediary: between it and us, between the past and the present. Between 2007 and 2022. Ending with gestures and clothes, Raimund Hoghe leaves the voice guide and dress him, and becomes the ghost of that presence, better to open a gap between the presence of the bodies and the other world of a tone.

Raimund Hoghe is among the most renowned international artists within his genre. He was a dramaturge for Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch between 1980 and 1989. He has spent the past twenty-five years creating a challenging choreographic body of work, alternating solos and group performances (Sacre – The Rite of Spring, Swan Lake, 4 Acts, Boléro Variations, etc) that revisit major works in the history of dance. Each of his performances rests on a tiny thread, a fabric made of gestures, shapes, and melodies, which he imbues with the thickness of memory. In 2019, Raimund Hoghe was granted the title of Officer of the Order of the Arts and Letters by French Minister of Culture. He lived in Düsseldorf and died unexpectedly in his sleep on 14th May 2021, at the age of 72.
