Solveig Phyllis Rocher acted as artist-archivist at Teatro Municipal do Porto for a year—from January 2020 to January 2021. Paper and pencil in hand, she watched almost every performance taking place at the Theatre. Solveig conceives the setting-up of this archive as a geological process: the original performances drain into a number of materials through layers of translation (performance, drawing, body, paper, drawn line, sewed line), and little by little lose information and diminish until there’s nothing left but these residues that the artist now presents so that this year won’t be forgotten.
SOLVEIG PHYLLIS ROCHER is an artist. She has a degree in drawing and performance, which she somehow continuously sets against one another in her work. Her focus is the archive—the European archive consisting of paper documents and the non-European archive systems that often involve bodily practices.
