Author's bio text

Teatro de Ferro was founded in 1999 under the artistic direction of Carla Veloso and Igor Gandra. The name implies a notion of primordial matter that is resistant and at the same time mutable: a process of transformation that remains inspirational. The company's work has been developed mainly in the field of puppet and object theatre - it is part of a logic of research in which the puppet assumes a fundamental value in its possible, tentative and tempting hybridisations. The relationship between the performer-body and the manipulated object-world and the involvement of each spectator in the construction of this relationship are lines of reflection that span TdF's extensive artistic practice. Since 2003, Teatro de Ferro has been funded by: Ministério da Cultura/Direcção-Geral das Artes.
