Understage

Not just one of the most important figures in portuguese jazz, Rodrigo Amado is already recognised as one of the most innovative saxophonists of his time. Through decades of collaborations that attest his versatility, from the Barcelos rockers Black Bombaim to the legendary Joe McPhee, Amado has left his mark in various genres and became one of the most celebrated Portuguese musicians at an international level. Respecting the history of Jazz, from Coltrane and Sonny Rollins to the most modern German and Norwegian approaches, but with the confidence of a virtuoso who doesn’t shy away from giving it its personal touch that makes his music immediately identifiable, Amado finally presents his first solo album. In Refraction Solo, music homages are as present as his own discourse, thus becoming a perfect introduction to those who have not yet heard his work as well as an opportunity to more closely examine it for those who have long followed his career.
This will be his first presentation in Porto. A performance which, through the familiar languages on display, becomes highly accessible whilst tempting the listeners to explore the fresh approaches at the forefront of modern jazz.
