The programme developed for Teatro Municipal do Porto is based on the project defined by the City Council of Porto for both hubs of Teatro Municipal: Rivoli and Campo Alegre.
Anchored in three main axis - Programme, Paralelo and Campo Aberto - Teatro Municipal do Porto presents an artistically demanding programme, working closely with local, national and international context.
The Programme is strongly focused on Dance, while other artistic areas are significantly represented. Therefore, Theatre, Music, Film and Literature are systematic territories of our programme.
The international Dance, Theatre and Music programme reinforces the city’s offer regarding international circulation of today’s most outstanding contemporary artists.
Our work with national companies and artists is based on the co-production of new work and the promotion of repertoire. Regarding co-productions, Teatro Municipal do Porto dedicates special attention to local companies, nurturing a deeper and more substantial development of their work. With an average of 30 annual co-productions, Teatro Municipal do Porto assumes its role as one of the main national promoters of performing arts.
Bearing in mind these companies, projects and local artists, we’ve created Campo Aberto - Artistic Residencies Programme, to support the development of their work. This programme is developed on both hubs of Teatro Municipal do Porto (Rivoli and Campo Alegre), where we host long-term and short-term residencies, which will produce public presentations.
All this work comes to life with the presence and participation of our audiences. Through Paralelo - Approach Programme to Performing Arts, we develop a series of activities connected to our programme, focused on audience mediation and consolidation.
This balance between what happens in the city, what is shown around the country and the international performances that are presented in Porto, makes this theatre a true place for artistic discovery and confirmation, where risk and notability are in constant dialogue.
