This year brings us the 8th edition of DDD and a special moment in our history — from here on, we celebrate freedom. In the certainty that there is always a before and after, this edition starts from the voice, from the voices, to test other ways of being on stage, of experiencing dance in various spaces and formats. We redefine the limits of what dance can be, reformatting how it can be experienced. We rewrite narratives, unraveling how they can be shared and by whom. More than ever, DDD sees itself as a festival that co-produces new creations, giving space to the teeming artistic communities both here in Portugal and from countries across the world. We're proud to say that we don't do anything alone: more and more, we work with partner venues and festivals so that each performance echos elsewhere. After all, revolutions are made collectively, and in movement.
Can we hear the sound of movement?
Can we smell the revolution?
Can we taste the crowd?
Can we see what's happening?
In 2024, dance pieces can also be concerts, movement scores can be parties. And at a party, we can be whoever we want. We will walk to the sound of revolutions past, present, and future, allowing ourselves the time we need to witness them; and we will feed on them. There will even be time to sleep on them, with them, building them in our collective slumber. What will the dawn witness? May the DDD continue to inspire, challenge and unite, renewing this commitment to freedom. For this, we thank the team, for believing in new formats;
the partner organizations, for continuing to work with us;
the artistic teams, for continuing to take risks with us;
the audience, for welcoming the dawn with us.
