FIMP 17
International Puppet Festival of Porto
“Ressacs”, by Agnès Limbos and the Belgium company Gare Centrale, guides us in a humorous journey to the historic and colonial origins of modern capitalism. Also from Belgium, duo Noémie Vincart and Michel Villé (Une Tribu Collectif) present “Gaspard”, a peculiar human family where a puppet boy works as a motto to expose the ambiguous relationship between manipulator and manipulated. Thinking of Europe in a broader sense, and specifically of Saint Petersburg, the Russian collective Akhe is back with “Gobo. Digital Glossary”. Maksim Isaev, Pavel Semtchenko and their partners get us involved in their poetic and libertarian universe with this “pathetic labplay”, a glossary built as a simulacrum, providing us with yet another chance to get in touch with this iconic play from the beginning of the 21st century, probably for the last time. Gaspare Nasuto arrives from Italy to present us with his virtuous and explosive “La Domus di Pulcinella”, an Italian cousin of our D. Roberto. Cendrev’s Santo Aleixo puppets, a living heritage of Portuguese puppetry tradition that one is always eager to see again, and most importantly should know (and make known), return from Évora. FIMP is also the place to get to know the latest creations of some of the major institutions city and country-wise. Teatro de Marionetas do Porto premieres “Arcano”, which invites us to enter Franz Kafka’s universe through the puppets and the actors’ bodies. Also making its debut is Radar 360o’s new creation, “Manipula#Som”, an incursion of the sounds originating in the matter, the result of manipulating objects and juggling, into the interaction between digital and analogue interfaces. “Sleeping Beauty”, by Teatro de Ferro, is about the theatre of dreams of the girl asleep and the ones surrounding her. Designed for kids and grown-ups alike, nobody will remain unmoved by this appropriation of the tale. A Tarumba brings us their new performance: “This is not Gogol’s nose but it could be... with a dash of Jacques Prévert”. Luís Vieira and Rute Ribeiro set up a party where unusual may be seen as kitsch.
