Understanding racism in its structural dimension involves situating it as an organising principle of modern societies, intrinsically linked to the historical dynamics of social formation, relations of production, institutional structures and regimes of cultural representation. Far from being an anomaly, racism operates as a technology of power that regulates access, distributes privileges and produces hierarchies, becoming persistently embedded in ways of seeing, thinking and existing. It is within this critical framework that QUILOMBO_TREMA! is situated, conceived as an aesthetic-political device aimed at activating processes of historical redress and challenging dominant epistemologies. Based on the recognition of the arts as a central force in the production and circulation of meanings—and, therefore, in the reproduction or challenge of hegemonic regimes — the festival aims to foster counter-hegemonic artistic practices that challenge established narratives, shift centres of power and affirm alternative frameworks of knowledge, sensibility and existence. — TREMA!?
