Sinopse
Jonas & Lander's new creation is a hybrid show between dance and music concert designed for five dancers, a fado singer and three musicians. Like most urban musical currents, such as samba or flamenco, fado also had its own dances. In Lisbon, the one that knew the greatest expression was Fado Batido, a dance based on an energetic and virtuoso tap dance. In Bate Fado, the duo of performers and choreographers proposes to reinterpret and recover the act of beating (tapping) Fado, where dance emanates from the quality of a percussion instrument in dialogue with the voice and guitars. Bate Fado is presented as the first step towards the rescue of dance that fado lost long ago.
The paths of Jonas and Lander crossed at Escola Superior de Dança during their academic training, starting a collaboration that has become recognized in the Portuguese dance panorama as having a strong author’s signature, with unique contours, that explores the fusion between different performing arts, with special emphasis on music. This brand is immediately touched upon in Cascas d'OvO (2013), his first co-creation, where the rhythmic sense is vertiginously used as the common thread of the entire performance. JONAS&LANDER's authorial work has a wide range of performances such as Matilda Carlota (2014), Arrastão (2015), Adorabilis (2017), Lento e Largo (2019) and Coin Operated (2019); also developing projects with local communities such as the piece Playback for the Festival Materiais Diversos (2013) or Caruma (2014), invited by Estufa Plataforma Cultural. In 2015 they founded Sinistra, a Fado house located in Sintra, whose legal structure functions as a production house for the duo's authorial work.
In 2017, they participated in the documentary series Portugal que Dança. They were part of the film Body Buildings, premiered in 2020. Bate Fado is their most recent creation.
