The producer bird by bird PROJECTS will audition for soprano, mezzo soprano and countertenor for the children's opera “A Wolf at the Door”, an original idea and music by Vasco Mendonça, with libretto by Gonçalo M. Tavares and staged by Inne Goris.

The world premiere will take place in October 2022, in Amsterdam, and the national premiere is scheduled for December 2022, at Teatro Municipal do Porto (TMP).

A production by the Dutch National Opera (Amsterdam, Netherlands) and LOD muziektheater (Gent, Belgium), in partnership with TMP and LU.CA – Teatro Luís de Camões.

The auditions will take place in Lisbon, January 13th and 14th, 2022, between 10:00am and 17:00pm.

For the morning session, candidates must prepare:
– A lyrical repertoire aria (18th-21st centuries)
– A contemporary piece (20th-21st centuries)
If your mother language is not Portuguese, candidates must also prepare a piece in Portuguese (which could be one of the two pieces above).

During the afternoon, the selected singers will work on movement and improvisation with Inne Goris.

Candidates must have completed training in a conservatory and, ideally, have stage experience and be fluent in Portuguese. They must also be available to work on a freelance basis in Europe.

Those responsible for the project are interested in listening to young singers (under 35 years old) and of different origins.
Entries (with CV, photo and video of a presentation) must be sent to the care of producer Naomi Russell until Monday, January 4th, to naomi@birdbybirdprojects.com.

About the project
Um Lobo à Porta is a tragicomic musical review of traditional children's tales, told from the perspective of the wolf, addressing key issues in developing a sense of community – which, rather than hatred and intolerance, should be based on civility, tolerance and in shared experiences. The original idea and music of this opera for children are by Vasco Mendonça, the libretto by Gonçalo M. Tavares and the staging by Inne Goris.
