How many words fit into one identity? How many identities fit into one word, in a language? How can we dance with the Portuguese language to be what we want? Creativity in places of tension, negotiation in times of confluence: in this third Descortinar, with Ellen Lima Wassu, Gessica Correia Borges, Luca Argel, and ROD, we cross oceans, share embers and sardines, break crystallisations to think about possibilities.
Gessica Correia Borges is a peripheral São Paulo woman, social communicator, poet and PhD candidate at the Communication and Society Research Centre of the University of Minho (CECS), with research focused on the work of black women and activists in the media. She has lived in Portugal since 2017 and is a member of anti-racist organisations such as the União Negra das Artes (UNA).
Ellen Lima Wassu is pirá, animal, river, tree, root, and seed. She is also a human being. Poet, PhD candidate in Comparative Modernities at the Centre for Humanistic Studies of the University of Minho (CEHUM). In 2021 she published “Ixé ygara voltando pra 'y'kûá” (Urutau) and her practice relates art, poetry, criticism, essay writing, good encounters, bathing in the river and talking to flowers.
Luca Argel (Rio de Janeiro, 1988) has a degree in music from UNIRIO and a master's degree in literature from the University of Porto. He sings and composes for various musical projects, as well as writing for radio, audiovisuals, and poetry.
