Under the motto “Esperança” [Hope], the festival runs from November 5th to 15th and features 67 performances from 14 countries, including several premieres. In its 27th edition, Mindelact is today considered the most important theatre event in West Africa.
This year, the programme once again closes the distance between the Cape Verdean festival and the Teatro Municipal do Porto. The performance “Aurora Negra”, which passed exactly a month ago at the Teatro Rivoli, marked the opening of the event last Friday. In “Aurora Negra”, Cleo Diára, Isabiel Zuaa and Nádia Yracema celebrate their roots expressing the memories of black women in post-colonial Portugal and for decolonization.
Also included in this year's programme, in co-production with Teatro Municipal do Porto / DDD – Festival Dias da Dança, is “Feedback”, by André Braga and Cláudia Figueiredo. On November 12th, there will be the opportunity to learn about the creative process behind the work that will later be seen at DDD, in Porto.
On the last day of the festival, the performance “UNA”, by Teresa Fabião, opens at the Centro Cultural Português in Mindelo. The dancer, creator, teacher and researcher in the field of dance, has recently developed the last details of this research project within the scope of the artist residency program at CAMPUS Paulo Cunha e Silva. The result will be a performance on HIV, based on biographical, biomedical and sociopolitical issues.
The Mindelact Festival, in addition to the performance aspect, promotes exchange between all participants, training actions in the most diverse artistic areas related to theatre, concerts, design and plastic arts exhibitions, and, in recent years, a “Festival off" alternative and a specific programme aimed at children, called "Teatrolândia", in addition to the International Cycle of Story Tellers.
