Michael Haneke

Austrian filmmaker Michael Haneke is one of the most renowned directors of contemporary European cinema, with a remarkable, exceptional, and unique body of work, which has won numerous awards (in addition to over 60 awards, he is also one of the few directors to win two Palme d'Or awards at Cannes). Starting in September, we will revisit his work with a complete retrospective of his films (all his feature films and some television films), including several never before commercially released in Portugal.

The retrospective will allow viewers to rediscover on the big screen several of the fundamental titles of his work and present films that have been commercially unreleased in Portugal until now, such as The Seventh Continent (1989), his first feature film; Benny's Video (1992); and 71 Fragments of a Chronology of Chance (1994), which make up the so-called "Glaciation Trilogy", which examines modern society and quickly established the foundations of his cinematic language. In addition to these, there are also television films, also never commercially released, such as Drei Wege zum See (1976); Lemmings, Part 1 – Arcades and Lemmings, Part 2 – Injuries (1979); Die Rebellion (1993) and The Castle (1997), based on the eponymous work by Franz Kafka.
