Girls of the Night

Adapted from a novel by Masako Yana, Girls of the Night, which some critics have approached from the Nouvelle Vague due to the way it approaches the characters, has an undeniable strength and is another of Tanako's great works. It is the story of the difficulty of reintegrating former prostitutes, whose past always comes back to haunt them. Chisako Hara gives a brilliant performance in the role of the young Kuniko, who tries to escape prostitution and look for a new life, revealing at the same time a certain fragility and great determination.
