Multiplex 2019: Bette Gordon

Bette Gordon is a North American filmmaker and professor at the Columbia University School of the Arts (New York). In an initiative by the Lusófona University of Porto, she has been invited for the 10th edition of Multiplex. With ties to New York’s independent cinema and to the early 1980s underground movement, her debut film, “Variety” (1983), whose cast includes friends such as Nan Goldin, analyses the relations between women, pornography and voyeurism, and it was unanimously acclaimed by the critics. Her work features the tactile aesthetics of saturated plastic values, and all her films address the feminine look upon the issues of sexuality, heteronormativity, violence and power.
