Forever a Woman

Kinuyo Tanaka was one of the greatest Japanese actresses, she worked with the great masters (Mizoguchi, Ozu, Naruse...) and in the 50s and 60s she made 6 films, which were recently restored, thus rediscovering herself as an enormous filmmaker. We start by seeing the masterpiece Forever a Woman, in which, as Inês N. Lourenço wrote in DN, Tanaka-director “breaks all the dishes”, continuing “a search for the real texture of the female figure, her most rebellious trait within of Japanese idealism, and reaches the zenith of this demand with an absolutely carnal heroine, or 'scandalous' (as the woman who inspired this portrait was seen by society at the time)”.
