Sinopse

Belonging / E di / Pertenencia / Zugehörigkeit / Pertença is a journey through possible encounters to the feeling of belonging. Meeting people, getting to know their life stories and their memories full of future. This performance, which could be a performing film screening, offers a journey to the complexity of the idea of belonging based on the importance of the genetic mapping of human populations through DNA testing, addressing the ethical, political, geographic, social and economic issues of such data, and the narratives on belonging as a feeling, a characteristic in urgent need of mapping. This is a film screening with live music in which the attempts to capture the feeling of belonging are poetic ways of telling someone’s personal history. — Raquel André

Author's bio text

Raquel André was born in 1986. She is a collector, performer, researcher, teacher and artist. She’s a doctoral student at the Centre for Theatre Studies, School of Arts and Humanities, University of Lisbon, with a grant from the Foundation for Science and Technology, conducting a research based on her own artistic practice under the guidance of researcher Paula Caspão. She completed a master’s degree in collecting in scenic arts at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro in 2016 under the guidance of artist and researcher Eleonora Fabião. In Brazil, she worked in seven productions with director Bel Garcia, and gained experience in curatorship and programming at the Galpão Gamboa cultural centre by working with César Augusto, Marco Nanini and Fernando Libonati. Her ten-year project Coleção de Pessoas [People Collection] is a lasting impression in her professional journey in performing arts. An extensive, multidisciplinary and unique collection that gathers four projects: Coleção de Amantes [Lovers Collection], Coleção de Colecionadores [Collectors Collection], Coleção de Artistas [Artists Collection] and Coleção de Espectador_s [Spectators Collection]. Every collection focuses on Raquel’s interaction with the inhabitants of a given territory. Her work has been presented all over Europe, North America and South America. Based on one-on-one meetings, she pieces together performances, lectures, books and exhibitions to create an archive of the ephemeral.
