Sinopse
Carnatic violinist Sumanth Manjunath, from Karnataka, and Berlin-based saxophonist Julius Gabriel, known for his experimental and improvisational approach, create a distinctive musical dialogue that interweaves Indian classical ragas, jazz, and drone music. The two first met at a music conference in Mysuru in 2022 and began performing together during a tour of Portugal the following year. Their collaboration grew from a shared curiosity about how their distinct musical languages might intersect in real time. In the tradition of the Indian jugalbandi — a dialogue between equals — the duo moves fluidly between composed frameworks and open improvisation. — Lovers & Lollypops

Author's bio text
Born into a family of legendary violinists, Sumanth represents the fourth generation of the illustrious Mysore violin lineage. He was trained by his grandfather, Sri Mahadevappa, his father, Dr. Mysore Manjunath, and his uncle, Vidwan Mysore Nagaraj — renowned worldwide as The Mysore Brothers. As one of the youngest torchbearers of India’s rich violin legacy, his music speaks a universal language, bridging cultures while remaining deeply anchored in the purity of the Carnatic tradition — expressed through intricate raga expositions and rhythmic complexities, seamlessly integrated into collaborative settings.
Julius Gabriel explores the boundaries and textures of his instruments through inventive techniques and expansive electronic treatments, while remaining rooted in a long tradition of avant-garde jazz. His work engages with the embodied phenomena of improvisation and composition, investigating the interplay between physicality, acoustics, and transcendence. In Portugal, he has established a strong presence through the duo Paisiel with João Pais Filipe, his collaborations with the space-rock band Solar Corona, and his solo projects — all released by Lovers & Lollypops.
