TARANTULA + EQUALEFT + REDEMPTUS

Tarantula is a Portuguese heavy metal band created in Valadares, Vila Nova de Gaia, by the brothers Paulo and Luís Barros in 1985 following thereformulation of the group Mac Zac, created in October 1981. They made their debut on 19 December 1981 at the Pavilhão do Cevadeiro (Vila Franca de Xira) in the “Grande Maratona do Rock Português”. In 1983 they recorded their only mock-up and on 15 December 1984 they bought that chapter to a close at the first “Festival de Heavy-Metal Português”, held in Santo António dos Cavaleiros, Loures. In 1985 they produced their first demo which was presented on 10 October at the Rock Rendez-Vous, Lisbon. At the beginning of May 1986, the second demo (still on tape) circulated in the existing channels and on 23 November 1987 the long-awaited LP “Tarantula” finally arrived in the shops, on Transmédia label, the first record of its type entirely recorded and produced by a Portuguese collective and issued in the country. Concerts by TARANTULA and Paulo Barros, in Portugal and abroad, include performances in which they have shared billing with some of the greatest and most highly respected names in the world of rock; Deep Purple, Motorhead, Testament, Helloween, Manowar, Gamma Ray, Stratovarius, Slash, Joe Satriani, among others.

Equaleft are one of the metal bands that best represents the Portuguese circuit underground. Founded more than 10 years ago, the band opted to follow the classical scheme issuing two singles, a demo, an EP and an LP. During this creative process, the group from north Portugal searched for its own language while, at the same time, revealing its influences. Their passion for performing helped them to create strong connections with bands in the same sector, encouraging union and mutual assistance. Equaleft have played in the main bars, events and festivals in Portugal, where the attitude on stage of this quintet led by Miguel Inglês has been memorable. As one of the first bands to use eight-string guitars in Portugal, the terms that define their sound are: groove, low-tunesand attitude.

Redemptus is a sludge/post metal band, formed at the beginning of 2014. The band members are Paulo Rui, vocalist from the punk/grind band Beast and ex-Eak, now on bass and vocals, Miguel Santos former guitarist in the rock bands Wild Tiger Affair and Lazy Lizard and also Marcos Martins, drummer from post-rock/environmental band “Juseph”. Redemptus have been
strongly influenced by bands such as Zozobra, Old Man Gloom, Converge, Cursed, Isis, among others. Since it was founded, the band has already played at several festivals and important concerts, with major names in international rock and metal. They are now presenting their new work, which combines black ambiances and atmospheres with deep riffs, together withdramatic vocalisation, belting out all the rot of human existence, entitled “We all die the same”.
