Alfred Hitchcock is one of the most famous and influential directors in the history of cinema. He has been quoted, copied, paid homage to and admired by different generations – the young critics of the Cahiers and future filmmakers Truffaut, Chabrol, Godard, Rivette, Rohmer, Moullet and Douchet made him the god of their Olympus; those of the "new Hollywood", from Carpenter to De Palma, Friedkin and Fincher, to Spielberg, Scorsese and Van Sant, have taken him as their model. And today, his cinema continues to be a fervent object of passion.
Therefore, it's always time to return to Hitchcock, whom we celebrate this week with three films: what is certainly his most famous work, Vertigo; Marnie, a film ahead of its time, as actress Tippi Hedren said, Catherine Deneuve's most beloved film, to which she returns time and time again; Torn Curtain, a spy film starring Paul Newman, needs to be seen again today.
