Sinopse

Steve Reich is seen as one of the most relevant and influential composers of the 20th and 21st centuries for his imagery and creativity, and for being one of the creators and promoters of so-called minimal music. His music is characterised by a constant beat, motif repetition and the frequent use of canons unfolding within strict structures, driving rhythms, harmonies from several musical genres (especially jazz) and a highly coloured orchestration. Steve Reich’s legacy has influenced composers and musicians all over the planet for its unquestionable authenticity. The Guardian describes him as one of the few composers who “changed the course of musical history”, and The New Yorker refers to Reich as “the most original musician and thinker of our time”.

DRUMMING GRUPO DE PERCUSSÃO, whose name was inspired by Steve Reich’s piece Drumming with the composer’s consent, is an ensemble devoted to contemporary music that was founded—and has been directed—by Miquel Bernat in Porto, in 1999. It has since established itself as one of the most important collectives of its kind at an international level. Its performances cover classical percussion, jazz, electronics and rock, and it also produces pieces for theatre, opera and ballet, closely working with composers and society.
