Sinopse
Paula Diogo conceived the series Sobre lembrar e esquecer [On remembering and forgetting] to discuss the way memory operates in our lives. Paisagem [Landscape], co-created with Tónan Quito and the Foguetes Maravilha collective, is the second instalment of a trilogy that started in 2018. The two short pieces Landscape and Night, by Harold Pinter, are the starting point for this performance. They both feature a middle-aged couple in a dialogue (or monologue) about events that only one of them seems to remember or that both remember in completely different ways. These pieces work as a motto to talk about what keeps people together over the years and how intimacy and interdependence relations are established.
PAULA DIOGO is a performer and theatre director with a particular interest in unlikely ideas. Having been involved in collaborative projects throughout her career, her artistic practice in the last few years comprised creation and production. She collaborates with several artists on a regular basis in the scope of Má-Criação, adopting the company as a liaison platform between creators with different artistic and geographic backgrounds. She presented her latest creation, Terra Nullius, at Teatro Nacional D. Maria II in October 2020.
TÓNAN QUITO is an actor and theatre director. He co-founded Truta, where he staged Ivanov, Histórias do Bosque de Viena [Tales from the Vienna Woods] and Anatol. He created Entrelinhas [In Between the Lines] with Tiago Rodrigues (who also wrote it) and Fausta, by Patrícia Portela, with Pedro Gil. He founded HomemBala with Patrícia Costa and directed A Vida vai engolir-vos [Life Will Swallow You], Um Inimigo do Povo [An Enemy of the People], Ricardo III [Richard III], Fé, Esperança e Caridade [Faith, Hope and Charity], Oresteia and Casimiro e Carolina [Casimir and Caroline]. He also directed Sonho de uma Noite de Verão [A Midsummer Night’s Dream] for Companhia Maior.
The works of FOGUETES MARAVILHA explore ways of being on stage and relating to the audience. Their presentations blur the lines between stage, audience, fiction and reality, and stack layers of meanings, languages and artistic practices. In ten years, the group based in Rio de Janeiro has been to dozens of venues across Brazil with performances such as Ele precisa começar [He Needs to Start] (2008), Ninguém falou que seria Fácil [Nobody Said It Would Be Easy] (2011), Síndrome de Chimpanzé [Chimpanzee Syndrome] (2013) and Mortos-Vivos: uma Ex-Conferência [Living Dead: An Ex-Conference] (2017).
