Quaresma

Quaresma is a return to the director's origins, to the granite strength and cold light of the Serra da Estrela landscapes, haunted by the wind, and to the ruins of the family home where Morais spent his childhood. It rhymes with Peixe Lua due to the overwhelming presence of Beatriz Batarda (“it burns the screen”, wrote Mário Jorge Torres), but it is like a reverse of that film. The “excess” here is not that of the hot summers of the south, it is that of an amour fou, which through suffocation borders on madness [Morais spoke of “a film about the need to breathe (the need and the difficulty and the impossibility of breathing)].
