This piece arises from the confrontation of the research tools and choreographic composition of Sofia Dias and Vítor Roriz with the bodies and sensibilities of the Companhia Maior's artists. A piece that begins with an appeal to experimentation, which is nothing more than an attempt to encounter what we have not mastered or put us in a zone of conflict, risk, and even bankruptcy. It seems to us that it is in this place, between what is mastered and what is unknown, that the body acquires the quality of the present–transparency that allows us to see its way of acting and thinking. O lugar do canto está vazio is empty is a game of alternations between the abstract and the figurative, the recognizable and the strange, the individual and the collective, the biographical and the fictional. A composition of sound scores, gestures that are linked with words, brief narratives interrupted by movements, and objects that give rise to voices.

SOFIA DIAS and VÍTOR RORIZ are choreographers and dancers who have worked together since 2006 in researching and designing various shows, performances, and installations presented in over 17 countries. Based on movement and gesture, Sofia and Vítor have broadened their research to the ductile nature of spoken, sung, and written words, crossing different presentation formats, in an attempt to question the limits of language and representation. The duo's growing interest in forms of sharing and reflection among peers has led them to organize, since 2012, several residencies and meetings between artists, among which Aware stands out in the context of the Alkantara Festival. They regularly teach classes and workshops in Portugal and abroad. They were the curators of the second edition of PACAP–Advanced Program for Creation in Performing Arts, at Fórum Dança (2018/2019). As a duo, they have collaborated with several artists, such as Catarina Dias, Lara Torres, Gonçalo Waddington, Carla Maciel, Marco Martins, Clara Andermatt, Mark Tompkins, and Tiago Rodrigues.

COMPANHIA MAIOR is composed of artists who are mostly over 60 years of age, coming from different areas of artistic and cultural activity. It was created in 2010, on the initiative of Luísa Taveira, with the mission of promoting creativity in older age. The company has worked with several generations of creators in the interdisciplinary context of contemporary creation.
