Teatro da Palmilha Dentada & Interferência

It was meant to be a contemporary opera, the crossing of the aesthetics and languages of Palmilha Dentada and Interferência, to which one furthermore added the wealth and modernity of audio-visual means in a language that, despite not quite kitsch, guaranteed a timely modernity. Unfortunately, it went wrong. It is not easy to cross Palmilha’s humour and Interferência’s contemporary music erudition. The musicians didn’t act, the actors had no rhythm and mainly no one sang, which, in spite of all modern aesthetics, remains crucial when setting up an opera, even a contemporary one, even with audio-visual means, even if nearly kitsch. The end result, however, has music, humour and singing. As far as Mozart is concerned, he has nothing to do with all this mess. — Palmilha Dentada
