Sinopse

How do these generations who did not directly experience these events relate to the memories of their parents? Nostalgia passes down from parents to children, since memories are not kept locked away where no one can find them. How does their children’s generation relate to the decolonisation process and the revolution of 25 April 1974? And how do these families regard Africa? These are some of the basic questions of a project built on the testimonies of a generation that experienced the events through family memories.

Joana Craveiro
is the artistic director of the collective Teatro do Vestido, which she founded in 2001, and for which she has directed over 30 plays to date, most of which she wrote herself and in which she also acted and co-created. She attended an acting course at the Escola Superior de Teatro e Cinema (1997), has a degree in anthropology from the Universidade Nova de Lisboa, FCSH (2003) and a master’s in stage directing from the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama (2004). She recently finished a PhD atthe Department of Theatre and Performance Studies at Roehampton University, London, on the ways in which the memory of the New State, 25 April and the PREC are conveyed. The relationship between historical events and the way they are represented today, as well as the compiling of memories and life stories, and the poetic and emotional mappings of the cities, are some of the issues on which Joana Craveiro and the Teatro do Vestido have been working over the last 15 years.
