Sinopse

“Worst of” is an excessive, sarcastic celebration in line with what Teatro Praga has been presenting. They assume it is a ruthless look at “the chronic backwardness of Portuguese theatre” compared to other art forms, and an emphasis on the failure of that discipline. They also say it features the best actors—Márcia Breia, Rogério Samora, São José Correia and Vítor Silva Costa—as the rest of the cast, habitué of their plots, stages the canonical plays in the history of Portuguese theatre, from Gil Vicente to the 21st century. This compilation of Portuguese theatre classics, framed by a museum setting, bears examples that are easy to criticise and mock given their anachronism in the face of reality and what was being done abroad. It gives voice to the whimper that “Portuguese theatre is no good”. On the other hand, in that lack of repertoire the company finds a certain lightness and freedom to create. And to fail. “Not everything about theatre has to be good”. But then, one asks, what is—and why is it—bad?

Teatro Praga is a group or federation of artists. It was born in 1995 and is based in Rua das Gaivotas 6, Lisbon. It regularly collaborates with some of the most prestigious cultural institutions in Portugal and has performed in several European festivals and theatres (in Italy, the United Kingdom, Spain, Germany, France, Belgium, Hungary, Slovenia, Estonia, Denmark and Poland), as well as in Brazil, Israel and China.
