Understage

Adolfo Luxúria Canibal and Marta Abreu have known each other for a long time. But they had never thought of working together, even though that was how they met, when Marta Abreu joined Mão Morta at the time of Primavera de Destroços (2001). She had previously been bassist in the Voodoo Dolls (1994-1998) but, aside from a brief experience with Cadeira Eléctrica (2013-2016), music was not part of her plans. It took a pandemic for all this to change. Confined, with all the time in the world on their side and with nothing to do, they decided to have fun and amuse their friends with the few means they had at home: books, an iPad and an old electric piano. That's how they started in March 2020, filming with a mobile phone Adolfo Luxúria Canibal reading poems by him or by poets of his choice and Marta Abreu creating sound environments for these readings. And that's how they were later invited to participate in various online events during the months of total confinement, some pre-recorded and others live. And as, despite the minimalism of the media, the feedback was very positive, they went into the studio to record Goela Hiante—a record of dark and gloomy poetry, performed as only Adolfo Luxúria Canibal can do it, served by minimal, obsessive and claustrophobic, exquisitely created by Marta Abreu. They will present this dics, edited by Cobra Discos, in this concert.


The understage of a Theater can have several functions, but, in most cases, it functions as warehouse space and loads and discharges for the presented performances. But the Understage of Rivoli is, since 2015, the stage of a cycle of music, with monthly concerts that occupy space and transfigure it completely, thus making it another stage of the city. The programes programmers include Matéria Prima, Lovers & Lollypops and Amplificasom.
