Understage

Opening the year 2023, Matéria Prima proposes a programme of two concerts that crosses prominent and emerging figures in their multidisciplinarity in the city of Porto and both present their music as an integral part of a body of work that extends to other artistic disciplines. 

Richie Culver 
Originally from Hull, England, hometown of Throbbing Gristle, Richie Culver currently lives in Porto and is rightly recognized as one of the most exciting and prolific painters of this generation. Richie explores the embryonic relationship with the subculture of raves, boheme, DIY, which he unveils with a challenging sensitivity. His new record project, entitled “I was born by the sea”, edited by the newly created REIF premieres on Understage. With it, Richie Culver ends a period of intense introspection and emotional evaluation that serves as an optimistic declaration of intent and a final look at the painful places he touches.

Amuleto Apotropaico
Recent duo from Santa Maria da Feira that formed and lives in Porto. Previously working as members of the Colectivo Bergado e Terebentina, Francisco Oliveira and António Feiteira now converge in a definitive music — an oracular ritual, leading themselves along the intelligible routes of vertigo and delirium, concentric only in their deliberate spirituality. The first album is scheduled for the first half of 2023 — until then, with due urgency, the circle will emerge, always making itself heard as long as the candle is lit.
