Sinopse

Sharifi’s movement language tends to be physically challenging, intense and powerful, exploring the deepest feelings behind power, political systems and violence through precise movements and other stage effects. The tanbur is one of the oldest string instruments in the world, and its origin dates back 5000 years. It is a three string lute and considered to be the predecessor of many current string instruments, including the classical guitar. In Iranian Kurdistan, tanbur is seen as a secret instrument and until five decades ago it was only used by Yarsan Sufis at Sufi processions. This workshop aims at conveying the basic notions of traditional Persian and Kurdish music. We shall work with the rhythm and melodies of those two types of music, and try to learn some songs and improvise around them.
