Sinopse

Crisálida [Chrysalis] stands for the butterflies’ growing, colour definition and sexual differentiation process, during which there are colour explosions inside the cocoon, and which is the only time they move little or nothing. Struggle, resistance and persistence are key words in this performance. The dialectics of this work have to do with demystifying gender categories, based on the existential issues of Nietzsche, Sartre and Goffman. The individual being, the social being and the creation of new concepts that encourage the discontinuity of human nature are issues on which the creator wishes to dwell in this piece. By analogy, bringing to the stage a polysemous aesthesia where the circus technique, video and a few fine arts experiences are used in order to raise new meanings and new feelings in renewed enigmas.

Daniel Seabra was born in Porto and started his artistic career in 2010, specialising in aerial acrobatics at Chapitô. He worked as aerialist for the Royal Circus (2013) and Cirque Pinder (2014), among others. He also collaborated with companies such La Fura dels Baus and Companhia da Esquina. In 2017, he worked with João Pedro do Vale and Nuno Alexandre Ferreira in Palhaço Rico fode Palhaço Pobre [Rich Clown Fucks Poor Clown] for BOCA – Biennial of Contemporary Arts. He participated in the creation of Companhia Erva Daninha’s Savar A. M. In 2018, he directed the project Fractions of a Whole for Imaginarius Festival and premiered his first solo, Crisálida [Chrysalis], in the scope of Mostra Estufa. As a creator he focusses his research on merging circus with other artistic languages, in order to perceive the way in which they contaminate each other.
