On the cycle Antiprincesas, Cláudia Gaiolas premières a performance dedicated to Carolina Beatriz Ângelo, a Portuguese woman who has marked the history. Doctor and Portuguese feminist, she was the first woman voting in the country in 1911. The law stated that only Portuguese citizens over 21, who knew how to write and speak and were householders, could vote. As a widow and only supporter of her daughter, Carolina Beatriz Ângelo has claimed in court her right to be considered a “householder”.
CLÁUDIA GAIOLAS was born in Lisbon, in 1976. She has a bachelor’s degree from the Lisbon Theatre and Film School. She is a performer and creator, and she co-founded Teatro Praga. She has worked with several companies, such as Mundo Perfeito, Mala Voadora, Truta, Má-Criação, teatro meia volta e depois à esquerda quando eu disser, Teatro da Garagem and HomemBala, as well as with Tiago Rodrigues, Tónan Quito, Paula Diogo, Giacomo Scalisi, António Mercado, André Murraças, Joaquim Horta, Madalena Victorino, Jean-Pierre Larroche, Rui Horta, Clara Andermatt, Martim Pedroso, Agnès Limbos, Dinarte Branco, Guilherme Garrido, Alfredo Martins and Alex Cassal. She staged the plays Starting Tomorrow and The Woman Who Stopped with texts by Tiago Rodrigues. She staged The Terrorists and created the plays Solo Doméstico and Não sou só eu aqui for the Materiais Diversos Festival. She took part in the TRYANGLE lab and developed the project TryRomance. She performed in the play I Don’t Belong Here, directed by Dinarte Branco. She co-created The Great Book of Tiny Details. She directed the series Antiprincesas for São Luiz Teatro Municipal. Together with Anabela Almeida and Sílvia Filipe she co-directed the play As Três Sozinhas for Teatro Nacional Dona Maria II. She taught theatre in the scope of the Theatre Workshops organised by the Lisbon City Council. She led several workshops for children and youths for Artemrede, Teatro Maria Matos, CCB, Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and Forum Dança. She was a theatre teacher at the Santa Cecília Music Academy between 2001 and 2018.
