At the end of the 16th century, when Christianity from the West was outlawed in Japan, Lady Ogin falls in love with the samurai Ukon Takayama, a devout Christian. The warrior refuses her advances, preferring to dedicate himself to his faith, and Ogin ends up marrying a man she doesn't love. But a few years later, Ukon returns and confesses his love for her.
